ESSENTIAL STANDARDS

READING

I CAN…

  • retell a variety of stories
  • find the main theme or message and explain it with supporting details from the story
  • compare and contrast the characters, settings, plots, and themes of different books by the same author
  • figure out the meanings of words, using context clues
  • ask and answer questions within informational text
  • find the main idea using supporting details from the text
  • figure out the meaning of academic words and phrases related to various subject areas
  • compare and contrast two texts
  • read and decode grade level words
  • find and tell the meanings of most common prefixes and suffixes
  • read words with more than one syllable
  • read third grade words that aren’t spelled the way they sound
  • read with fluency and accuracy to understand what I have read
  • read orally
  • self-correct

WRITING

I CAN…

  • write my opinion on a topic and support it with reasons
  • write about a topic to inform the reader
  • write a story about something that has happened to me or imagined
  • strengthen my writing when someone helps me
  • write for long or short periods of time

MATH

I CAN…

  • multiply and divide within 100 using different strategies
  • use the four operations to solve two steps of word problems
  • check to make sure it makes sense
  • understand and represent fractions on a number line
  • compare fractions
  • measure area by using what I know about multiplication and division

PE/HEALTH

I CAN…

  • throw overhand & hit my target
  • dribble in general space with control of ball & body while increasing & decreasing speed
  • engage in physical activity with responsible interpersonal behavior

SPEAKING & LISTENING

I CAN…

  • share my ideas clearly in a respectful way

LANGUAGE

I CAN…

  • use the rules of language when writing and speaking
  • use punctuation and proper spelling when writing

SEL

I CAN...

  • identify and manage their emotions and behavior constructively
  • demonstrate consideration for others and a desire
  • to contribute positively
  • develop and maintain positive relationships

MUSIC

I CAN…

  • use my beautiful singing voice to sing melodies accurately, and demonstrate macro and micro beat
  • read quarter notes and rests, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes
  • demonstrate audience appropriate behavior for the context and style of music presented and performed in 3rd grade

ART

I CAN…

  • engage in discussion and the critique of artwork with terminology relevant to art, and if necessary, make revisions to the artwork
  • recognize how art was created based on the processes available during the timeframe of the creation of a work of art

CODING

I CAN...

  • use numbers or symbols to show how programs store information
  • think like a computer, in sequences and loops
  • identify and fix problems in my code
  • choose the right form of technology to complete tasks most efficiently
